The Formosa Foundation, which promotes self-determination for Taiwan, held a half-day conference in Washington in December on Taiwan's January 2012 elections. "Ensuring Free and Fair Elections" featured members of Congress, including U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, Rep. Howard Berman, D-Ca., Rep. Ed Royce, R-Ca., and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fl., chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Other speakers included Terri Giles, executive director of the Formosa Foundation; Carolyn Bartholomew, U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission; Louisa Greve, National Endowment for Democracy; Dr. Jaushieh Wu, National Chengchi University and the International Committee for Fair Elections in Taiwan; Sarah Cook, Freedom House; Julian Baum, journalist.
